Why Teak?
Our Teak Furniture is made from Teak which is one of the world's most valuable timbers providing durability and stability under extreme climatic conditions. Teak is the first choice for boat builders with its unique blend of grain and distinctive colour.
These qualities combined with good workmanship produce the finest garden furniture in the world, that will last for a very long time.

The Natural Behavior of Teak FurnitureNatural teak if left outdoors will gradually weather to a lovely silver grey colour. This would probably take 6 to 9 months depending on the amount of sun and rain it has been subjected to. Small cracks (known as checking) may also appear, this is a characteristic of all hardwood timbers and will not affect the strength or durability of the furniture.Checking is due to changes in the seasons and the wood releasing or drawing moisture from the atmosphere, checking is not to be considered as a defect.

Wood and Moisture
All wood in growing trees contains considerable quantities of water, commonly called sap. Most of this water should be removed in order to obtain satisfactory service from the wood in use. All wood gains loose moisture in an attempt to reach a state of balance with the condition under which it is stored or used.
The Teak timber used in our furniture is kiln dried so as to minimise the swelling and contracting of the furniture.

Caring for your Teak FurnitureTreating your Teak furniture with teak oil or other preservatives is not necessary and will not extend the life of your furniture.
Should you prefer to return its original colour we recommend that you should apply the oil before weathering takes place. Ensure that the furniture is dry and free of dust and apply one light coat of oil with a clean cloth or brush, wiping off any excess oil. Teak oil should not be applied over accumulated dirt as the the result in darkening your Teak furniture.
If necessary, remove previous oil or dirt by vigorous scrubbing or using a pressure hose. The pressure hose should be held at a distance of 6 to 8 feet away, set at about 1000psi (approximately 70 bar) and then rubbing with fine sandpaper in the direction of the grain.

Furniture JointsSome of our furniture does come with bolts like our extension tables, but these go through the hand crafted mortice and tenon joints.
The tables will stand up on their own without the bolts. Our furniture is built jointed and Teak doweled making it so much stronger and will last much longer.
The thickness of the teak is generally much greater than other hardwoods making our products even more robust. Our Teak furniture is built for endurance, made out of the most durable timber.

Where does our teak come from? Our source of teak is the plantations on the Island of Java. The Dutch, who were the colonial power at that time, started these plantations over one hundred and fifty years ago.
The plantations are now owned and managed by the Indonesian government agency, which is responsible for managing a strict policy regarding the size and quantity of trees felled each year together with annual replanting.

Do I need to store my furniture during the winter? No, Teak furniture can be left outdoors all year round. If you choose to cover your furniture outdoors during the winter then you should use a material that allows the wood to breathe. We recommend you don't use plastic.

Does your furniture require assembly? Some pieces are supplied fully assembled whilst others will need minor assembly, in which case instructions are given inside each carton.
